Gavin's bit of Bees Knees
Welcome to my little bit of the Internet - I hope you enjoy your visit (isn't that yukky).
On to possibly more interesting things...
Publications
I occasionally write articles for computer magazines, and tend to put a few online
(when the magazines' period of exclusive licence has expired). The text here may not be
identical to that which actually appeared in the magazines: this is because the editors
have probably made some changes for publication and, while I have no quibble with that,
I do not intend to go to the effort of copying the changes back into my source. So there.
- Windows Hooks, EXE 14(12), 2000. (Source code here.)
- Infrared control of your PC, Dr Dobb's Journal 25(4), 2000. (Source code here.)
- Cracking the kernel, EXE 14(4), 1999.
- Legoware, EXE 13(11), 1999.
- Menage a trois, EXE 13(5), 1998.
- Java applet versus ActiveX, EXE 12(12), 1998.
- GNAT: the GNU New York University Ada Translator, Dr Dobb's Journal 22(12), 1997.
- Ada better than C++?, EXE 11(12), 1997.
- POV animation with Perl, Povzine, Summer 1996.
- Spritely optimisation, EXE 11(2 and 3), 1996.
- Who'd write a script in Microsoft Word?, EXE 10(12), 1996.
- Playing audio CDs, EXE 10(9), 1996.
- Basic at a stretch, Your Spectrum, 1984. (That's a blast from the past!)
I've also been responsible for a chapter in Neural Networks for Vision, Speech and Natural Language, by Linggard, Myers and Nightingale (ed), Chapman and Hall, 1992.
Anything else
In the small sliver of spare time left over from all of this, I have to confess I'm a big kid playing with Lego.
Utilities
You'll also find a few possibly useful bits and pieces of software knocking about here.
